Looking out my window…..

A girl can’t travel every day 🙂  Set up my interval timer on the Nikon D5500 – had some exposure problems with the snow…but otherwise….this was what the day and night was like at my home in Byward Market, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 🙂  13 of my shots came out white…*sigh* (I didn’t load them in here 🙂

BANG, ZOOM! Straight to the moon!

September 27th, 2015 we were able to witness a rare occurence, a Supermoon Eclipse!  We live on the penthouse/25th floor of a condo in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch the whole thing as there were clouds passing by and then the darn moon moved out of range…but here are some of the photos we did get.  I will add that we are new users of a Nikdon D5500 and were testing shutter speeds, ISO settings for the first time…overall I think we did ok given our technical limitations!  The supermoon as viewed by us!  A few dark images between eclipse & blood moon – so don’t stop clicking when it gets dark!  Click on first photo for a large version and be patient while they download – then you can see the arrow on the side and click through.

National Capital Green Belt – Trails # 25, 26, 28

Life is busy/topsy turvy these days, and we are grabbing our hikes where we can!   After putting up my Open House signs this morning, we headed out to the edge of Bridlewood once again and did a hike that came out to around 6 km.  It was sunny and warm, but the trails were partially covered and there was a nice breeze – always GREAT when there is no humidity!  We started out at P10 and our first stop was the old Lime Kiln ruins.   We discovered along the way there had been a fire in that area back in 2012 (and we really can’t figure out why we didn’t know that :).  As a result there was a lot of dead wood but now 3 years later there is a lot of new growth – bushes/trees starting.

We came across most of our usual suspects, birds, chipmunks, squirrels & a snake.  One of the trails is on a Beaver pond and there was a nice big Beaver hut, always a pleasure to see one, but alas no beaver in sight!

My new phone has a fitness app and it recorded my steps as 12,307 – which translates into 9.37 km…I’m pretty sure we didn’t walk that far…our estimates based on the lengths of the various trails were in the 6 km range…who knows 🙂  Still using the new Nikon D5500 as a ‘point & shoot’ – but hopefully soon I will have the time to start doing the online courses to teach myself the finer points!

New Toy!!!

Finally!  Got myself a REAL camera!!!  It NIKON D5500 a decent entry level DSLR!  With any luck at all I will learn how to use it before I die!  Just bought it with the basic lens kit, but am excited about looking into other lenses and take some classes to try and make my photos come to life!!!!  SO EXCITED!!!!!!  We are going camping this weekend so I will have an opportunity to shoot some outdoor stuff!11220854_10152952189156592_3540505947341798206_n
